How much mileage you get out of this werewolf tale depends on your tolerance/enjoyment of yucky special effects -- because they make up basically the whole second half of the movie. That said, the pure 80s-ness of the mise-en-scene was somehow entrancing to me and I'll admit to getting rather creeped out watching this alone in the dark.
Joe Dante drops a few in-jokes and the ending is classic -- seeing this on blu-ray did enhance some of the shots of woods and fog!
