Review of The Howling (1981) by Tom R — 13 Oct 2011
The Howling came out the same year as An American Werewolf in London. Both films feature stunning werewolf transformation scenes and monster effects, but The Howling is moves very slowly and is less scary and funny.
This film has its satirical moments and is in no way a bad movie, but it pales in comparison to the John Landis-directed Werewolf in London. Some may even like it better as a movie about a woman (Dee Wallace) recovering from a traumatic event with a commentary about the news industry rather than a horror film.
Either way, The Howling is worth a rental for the werewolf effects alone.
