Review of The Howling (1981) by John W — 29 May 2013
Anyone who reads this review know this. I love a ton of older horror films. Most of my favorites are from this era such as THE SHINING and THE THING. So with what I say don't think I'm just a kid from a new generation that cannot appreciate older movies, non-modern special effects, and slower pacing.
This movie just did not click with me. I thought that the general plot was very good about a colony of werewolves and what not. There were some good scenes like the transformation sequence, which for its time was pretty impressive, as well as the attack in the doctor's office. And I thought the ending (which I won't give a way) was near great but ran a just a little longer than it should have. But overall it just was sort of bland and for the most part unmemorable.
Now I have heard that they are doing a remake. Now apparently this film has a strong fanbase that is up and arms about this, but I can respect them on that. But I personally think that to me this is a perfect movie to be remade. It has a good premise but in my opinion lackluster execution. If they can take this premise and make a more entertaining movie with it than I think that could be great.
