Review of The Houses October Built (2011) by Manny M — 28 Jul 2015
The first half of the movie had me worried. This "found footage" home video camera style film focused on a group of friends traveling across the country visiting haunted houses and documenting it all.
It all started out a little slow with little jokes and un-scary trips through haunted houses. After awhile a couple scares and creepy moments were thrown in but it still did not add up to much, it was just a big lead up of anticipation for something.
The final 20 minutes however were incredibly scary and had me on the edge of the couch, drawn into the movie just waiting to see what fate awaited everyone. The camera footage got a little crazy at the end and it seemed like they didn't take advantage of everything they had going but it got down right creepy.
Not all of the scares worked but the ones that did were great. If you are into the found footage style horror movies, this one should be a treat and scare anyone a little too.
