A house with a clock in its walls is very interesting but it tries to make you laugh too hard. I have not ever read a house with a clock in its walls but the movie seemed to be adding a lot of unfunny humor.

Most of us watching a movie hope to be engaged in it and for it to be fun, but there are multiple parts in the movie where they add a jock that is unfunny and does not progress the plot in any way, I will be focusing on a scene near the end where Jack Blacks' character is turned into a baby.

The only reason this is here is to force Lewis to take on MacLachlans' character Isaac Izard, the main villain. At this point I should bring up another thing I hate about this movie and that's Lewis' motive to stop Isaac Izard and it's that he's bad and wants to end the world, the second one is a slight motive but it isn't enough.

What I would have done instead would be have Isaac Izard kill Jack Black's character, allowing Lewis to fight Isaac Izard and also to do it alone, the rest would play out as it did but this time he has a better motivation.

In the end Cate Blanchett's character who is one of the only good performances could start teaching Lewis and the movie could end with the ghost of Jack Black's character and Lewis' parents standing behind him.
