Review of The House with a Clock in Its Walls (2018) by Nicholas S — 20 Oct 2018
Even Jack Black wasn't enough to make this film worth watching. Despite so much promise and great cinematography the dialogue was boring and there were shot after shot after shot of nothing in particular just to show off the set and fancy camera tricks. Cinematography is important but with nothing going on it just falls flat. I watched this movie in theater in D-Box which was severely under-utilized and not worth the extra $8 (A problem I've only had once before. Mostly D-Box is a super fun extra feature).
If the directors plan was to show nothing of substance for the first half of the film and then pack all the plot and action into the second half, it was a bad plan. I can't say anything on that though because I walked out halfway through the film; something that I have only done once before with the film Her. I would not see this film again and I definitely won't be purchasing it for home viewing.
