Review of The House on Sorority Row (1982) by Baurushan J — 06 Apr 2013
The story is about seven sorority sisters including the serious-minded Katherine, evil-minded Vicki along with Liz, Diane, Jeanie, Morgan and Stevie who use a sorority house for their graduation party for all their other friends.
Eventually, the house belongs to Mrs.Dorothy Slater, an old woman who closes the house every 19th June in memories of her son Eric's birthday but the sisters force the house to be open. When Mrs.Slater drives Vicki to her nerves, she gets the other sister to set up a prank that involves threatening her with a gun.
But when the shooting prank goes horribly wrong as Mrs.Slater gets killed for real, they dump the body in the pool. but it seems like at the graduation party, a mysterious killer is stalking them and the girls are targeted starting with Stevie.
In this rare low-budget horror film, it definitely delivers some goods. The main female characters are memorable and the ones who die have such gross death scenes that they mostly happen off-screen even the unnecessary non-bait characters.
The movie has an excellent creepy score even though it sounded repetitive at times. Every single character was unique and well-written in it's own way and they all had relevance to the plot at the least bit.
If I was to choose the my favourite out of the sorority sisters, my favourite will be Katherine or Morgan. Although people say that this movie wasn't credible to begin with after the remake, so what? This movie gained a cult following because it's liked by so many people.
House On Sorority Row gets a 8.5/10.
