Review of The House of the Devil (2009) by Phil N — 21 Jul 2010
"The House of the Devil" is a movie created on the intent of bringing back the formula horrors of the late 70's and early 80's and it achieved exactly what it set out to do. The acting was not bad surprisingly enough and the story, though intentionally borrowed to some degree, was really well structured.
The pacing set perfectly to extract the fullest amount of tension and suspense. The shining feature is that this is not a parody like "Planet Terror" or "Death Proof" but a thoughtful throwback crafted with the same integrity that made films like "The Exorcist" what they are today.
