Review of The House of the Devil (2009) by Richard C — 11 Apr 2012
This film is the reason why I sit through 20 bad horror movies to root out the few good ones. It's incredibly eerie and even subtle at times, even when it seems like nothing is going on at all. It's definitely a slow burner, meaning not a whole lot happens in the beginning, but things build, and then explode.
It follows the pattern of a very talented horror director. Though some of the actors aren't tremendous and I have a feeling the budget got in the way of some of the grander ideas, this is still an extremely suspenseful film(especially in its final 30 minutes) which rewards patience and attention.
