Review of The House of the Devil (2009) by Stephen E — 17 Dec 2012
Ti West's deliberate, almost Hitchcock-like pacing is sure to bore and/or put off those who get restless easily, but for others, it's an example of methodical filmmaking at some of its finest. Expectedly, "The House of the Devil" does completely fall apart in its finale and almost gets so unbearable that it makes the first 70 or so minutes seem utterly remarkable, but the film as a whole still contains some genuinely horrific moments, some shocking surprises and an incredibly high level of tension.
Ti West goes for broke with the ending and blows most of it, but his film is still worth checking out.
