Review of The House of the Devil (2009) by Paul J — 10 May 2015
A brilliant little homage to 80's horror films. And not just in story and tone but also in style. In fact, they duplicate old-school horror in both the long takes, opening credits, costume design and even music.
It literally feels like a movie that came out in 1983. It has a beautiful slow-burn in its suspense and the lead actress is excellent. Granted, since so much of the film relies on anticipation, there isn't a whole lot to come back to on repeat viewings.
Still, there are a couple great scares and a provocative ending.
