Review of The House of the Devil (2009) by Matthew S — 01 Jul 2015

This is my favorite Ti West movie so far. The film is at once an homage and a of the late 70's / early 80's Babysitter Horror movies. He also is playing around with the urban myths that were so popular at that time.

But Ti West is smart enough to modulate his humor enough so that his film actually becomes a surprisingly scary movie.

Jocelin Donahue is excellently cast as the innocent babysitter, Greta Gerwig presents her unique presence as the sitter's best friend and A. J. Bowen also makes an effective appearance.

To add both cred and nostalgic humor West was able to secure Underground Film Legend, Mary Woronov, as well as Dee Wallace in key roles. But the real mastery comes with Tom Noonan's contribution.

It is a stylistic, fun and creepy movie. Not to be missed!
