Review of The House of the Devil (2009) by Alison O — 06 Aug 2010
The House of the Devil is a delightfully wicked and entertaining throwback to horror cinema from the 70s and 80s before tongue-in-cheek, self-conscious, comedy-driven, postmodern horror took over. It is stylish and slow-burning.
Ti West builds suspense slowly and methodically like a true master of the genre, and you won't know what's coming until the very end. Loads of fun for those who like their horror to take itself seriously and who can appreciate a Hitchcockian style of tension.
