Review of The House of the Devil (2009) by Erick F — 29 Oct 2012
Solid little throw back film. The slow burn scares were well worth the wait. I went into this movie knowing nothing about Ti West but he is definitely a director to keep track of now. He completely understands horror in a way most new horror directors don't get.
Gore doesn't automatically = fear. This guy knows how to use fear against you. He has an ability to make a girl walking around a house, with not much going on, scary as fuck. At first, you may think this movie is just a poorly made movie -- it is suppose to feel that way -- then you slowly realize is a great director at work, and everything falls into place.
Enjoy this film. The gore is in the right places and the fears actually scare! Good Concept Good movie!
