Review of The House (2017) by Liam H — 31 Oct 2017
This film is a good film. It is funny, it is not at the same level of funny as Will Ferrell's best film's but it is funny. What surprised me about this movie is that there is more depth to it than I imagined.
The film doubles up as a feel-good movie, a family movie with a more interesting plot than you would originally think. Jason Mantzoukas probably stole this film for me. He is probably the funniest person in the movie.
Will Ferrel is not at his top notch best but he is mediumly funny. All of the 3 main characters in this are funny and that makes up for the fact that it is not a classic, goof-ball movie that we may be used to.
However there are also moments of excitement in this movie, moments of gore & unexpected cameo's which add extra layers of depth. It is not the funniest film you will see but it is well written, it has more depth & heart than you would expect, it has feel-good moments, it is still funny and it is a good representation of the time period with current family values & problems.
