Review of The Hours (2002) by Leah V — 24 Jan 2009
Although well made and acted, The Hours, intoxicatingly, yet delicately, attempts to persuade the viewer of the normalcy and accepability of the lifestyles and choices of the the characters. While I appreciate certain aspects of the film, which can be seen even with all the false humility portrayed, and don't really regret watching (because the music was fantastic -yet somewhat melancholy), I felt somewhat patronized in the above stated sense (by a writer who is simply trying to be haughty and elitist).
My message to the writer would be: not everyone who disagrees with immorality is mindless and unintelligent! It is by a choice, which we appreciate having. Further, I would say that, I know that the 'bottom line' is the same to you as it is to all of us and you haven't evaded this, or distracted us from this, with a movie that is meant to be mysterious and the like.
It is still merely what it is, and really not so mysterious.
