Review of The Hours (2002) by Jonathan D — 27 Jun 2009
Three parallel stories dredge us in depression, questioning the limits of devotion to others when it finds itself at odds with our obligations to ourselves. The film sustains a dark and moody tension punctuated by a few deep, heart-aching stabs of plot.
Beautifully acted, across the board, from the staring roles to the supporting characters. A powerful film that leaves the viewer with a sense of balance and of closure, but with no grand answer to the fundamental questions it asks.
