Review of The Hours (2002) by Jonathan G — 20 Mar 2011
Going into this movie I knew that it was loosely about the real-life author/poet, Virginia Woolf. As I was watching her character on the screen I kept telling myself "That actress is really good, why haven't I seen her in anything else". As the credits rolled in the end I noticed it was Nicole Kidman (with a fake nose). I felt stupid, but the nose and hair really fooled me. No wonder she got an Academy Award. This movie also made me fall in love with Claire Danes all over again. She had a small part, but was so cute in it. John C. Reilly also did some great supporting acting in this. I don't know if I'd truly recommend this to non-English Literature enthusiasts, but you may like it. I didn't like the overall morbid ideas and concepts of the film/novel, but it did keep me locked in.
Also: The Hours was the original working title to Virginia Woolf's 'Mrs. Dalloway' which is basically Meryl Streep's character.
