With a terrific trio that illuminates the screenplay with hot flashes of heart-wrench, The Hours asserts its ability to deal with a well-wrought, yet saddening premise. Also, let's just throw this out there: The Hours may be one of the only films to ever be better than the book.
.. and that says a lot. No harm intended Mr. Cunningham, your novel is still one of my favorites.
