Review of The Hours (2002) by Annie G — 11 Nov 2009
Capsule review from when I first saw it in theaters:
Very depressing, but also very good. In a female performance-driven pic, with everyone from Nicole Kidman to Julianne Moore to Allison Janney to Meryl Streep, Ed Harris, John C. Reilly and Jeff Daniels add some male perspective to the flick. Hours tells the tale of Virginia Woolf and two other women in different time periods affected by her Mrs. Dalloway. While everyone was great, I would rather see Streep up there for Best Actress Oscar than Kidman. And on the Supporting Actor front, Harris has surpassed Reilly's (for his role in Chicago) right to pick up the trophy. It's still not good enough to pass up Chicago for Best Picture, though.
