Review of The Hotel New Hampshire (1984) by Deborah M — 01 Jan 2008
An excellently played, yet very screwed.
Up flick.
This film has a very light tone to it that does not really reflect the incredibly dark material within it, but the light touch really works to it's advantage. So many bad things happen during this film, but there is also plenty of humour (admittedly it is very black comedy) that is very effective.
The casting is pretty cool and I was fairly surprised at how good Rob Lowe was in this. Jodie is also very good and it is a reminder of how great she can be.
All told, this is a very dark and unusual tale populated by great characters and very fucked up events.
