Not as bad as I was anticipating. Some of the narration, which may have worked in the novel, did not translate well onto film, making for some frequent awkward scenes; Saoirse Ronan handles this as best she can and gives a decent performance despite some material that's basically crap.
The whole movie felt very small and the stakes were never elevated, even so I didn't hate it.
