Review of The Host (2013) by Stephen S — 25 Nov 2013
Okay this film is definitely what I'd call a guilty pleasure. It's dumb, it's silly, and it's cliched as hell, but there's just something about it that makes me want to like it. I guess the fact that it's one of those movies where you know everything's going to be okay by the end.
You just know it. And I guess that some small part of me likes that about this movie. That and the sci-fi elements are really cool. I love the whole "welcome to the resistance" kind of sci-fi genre.
If they ever manage to make another one, I'd love to see more action in it, like large-scale battles. The cast is good and the acting is surprisingly above par. Saoirse Ronin, who plays the lead, is great.
I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing her in other movies in the future. Like I said, this was a rare time I really disagreed with a lot of the critics on the value of this film. Most people probably wouldn't enjoy it.
