Review of The Host (2006) by Tom B — 10 Feb 2012
Brilliant world cinema horror film!
Woah!, what a brilliant, refreshing cult gem. I missed this original release and finally got to see it (in 2012) having heard major recommendations, and was more than pleasantly surprised and overwhelmed.
This is a great world cinema horror film whereby a mutant lake creature terrorises a local city.
The thing that is striking about the non-Hollywood Korean masterpiece are the effects, and the look of the mutant fish 'enemy'. The story is ok, with some great settings, interesting characters and some intelligent scenes. Yes, it;s personality remains distinctly Korean, but it's Hollywood effects team really escalates this modern horror classic.
