Review of The Horse Whisperer (1998) by Robert W — 25 Jan 2010
Strong story with strong characters.
A determined mother seeks out a man to heal her daughter's horse after a terrible accident - and perhaps to help her daughter to overcome the ordeal as well. The journey takes its time, and changes all of them slowly yet inevitably.
The actors were good, especially young Scarlett Johansson. She was absolutely brilliant as anguished, broken young woman who has lost all faith in tomorrow.
The music in this movie was beautiful, as was the scenery. A thrilling, beautiful, sad yet strong movie that never quite manages to find a happy ending - and for some reason, that's quite alright.
Perhaps a bit boring and drawn-out at times, but all in all the story pieces itself together quite well, without abysmal surprises or shocking revelations.
