Review of The Honeymoon Killers (1970) by David H — 24 Apr 2010
Though technically crude, this potent, darkly comic response to the slicker Bonnie and Clyde is rich with atmosphere. The spare yet sophisticated production design portrays Upstate suburbia as a series of lonely prisons preyed upon by a notorious pair of con artists.
It's a sort of cross between Night of the Living Dead and John Waters. The deliberately overlit scenes shot by a mesmerizing, floating camera are edited together with a minimalist flair for impact and wit.
