Review of The Homesman (2014) by Katze M — 04 Oct 2014
What a powerful film. Couldn't stop thinking about it. cuddly is the ultimate frontier woman, possessing all the qualities necessary to survive and thrive in the harsh frontier, yet the gender and morality codes of the day cause her to be marginalised and dismissed.
The acting is bang on, the period details authentic. The director refuses to employ the usual filmic tropes that allow us to be comfortable, instead giving us humour, tragedy, horror and grace in the uneven and unscripted rhythm of real life.
Bravo.
