Review of The Home Song Stories (2007) by Kevin P — 27 Sep 2007
Joan Chen is brilliant as always in Tony Ayres autobiographical story of his childhood. It's a tragic tale that's told with lots of humor on the way. We burst out laughing at times at the brilliant juxaposition of Chen's character and suburban Australia.
A great commentary too on the migrant experience and all that this entails. Rose's snide comments about Norma and suburbia were very funny. Yuwu Qi is gorgeous and provides the necessary eye candy even if his character is a bit seedy.
Overall a great film, but don't see it if you're feeling even slightly depressed.
