Review of The Holiday (2006) by Esteban G — 28 Dec 2011
I dont understand why but it seemed I watched two different movies when I saw The Holiday. The first hour was long, the characters were uninteresting and I was just hoping the movie would get over with soon.
The second hour was great. The characters all of a sudden seemed real and interesting. I think the turning point for me was when we discover the true Graham (Jude Law) and for the first time the chemistry between him and Amanda (Cameron Diaz) looks real.
From this point on the movie gets much more interesting, funny, and romantic. I could have done without that first hour which only served as a long introduction to the true story which only began for me after an hour into the film.
Jack Black was great in this movie and funny as always; he proves he can do less silly works as well and still be entertaining. The last hour gets 4 stars for me but the first only 2 so I have to give this an average passing grade.
If I ever watch this movie again Id probably start it an hour into the movie because I know I wouldnt stand going through the first hour all over again. The ending is sweet, funny, romantic and yes predictable just as any action movie is in that you know the good guys will win and the bad guys lose.
I dont think predictability can take anything away from this movie which I ended up enjoying at the end.
