Review of The Holiday (2006) by Benjamin M — 22 Aug 2010
I have to say I don't traditionally have an issue with long movies.. The Holiday however, is mostly an exception. At well over two hours you really want the story to be surprising, which it is not, and you need some likeable characters that you take interest in, of which there are only a few. Interestingly, the two that do interest you are not the lead roles, but the love interests; Jack Black and shock horror, Jude Law (who plays someone I can only imagine is completely opposite to his real life persona)... does that make him a good actor? I'm not sure.
It is fun and silly at times... and I have to say I did enjoy the side-story of the old man screenwriter. Don't take it too seriously and roll with it.. Ironically enough, if it weren't so long it might have grown on me even more... though that's the benefit of hindsight.
