Review of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) by Rhythmicreview — 31 Dec 2013
I can safely classify The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug as an action movie. And that's about the biggest insult I can give it. Neither The first Hobbit, or the Lord of the Rings trilogy had its focus on action, but rather on characterisation.
This added to the action scenes, because you truly cared about the characters, and therefore the outcome of the fight. It was somewhat of a drag to sit through this because the meaningful experience that I expect from Jackson was non-existent in this movie, and I seriously hope the final installment to The Hobbit returns to its roots.
