Although it does bother me how much they strayed from the source material (especially in regards to Legolas), I thoroughly enjoyed The Desolation of Smaug as a movie-going experience. As a film, it's action-packed, funny at times, and visually stunning.
The fight scenes were nothing short of incredible. Jackson was finally able to portray Legolas' agility in its full glory.
All around a very fun and gripping film.
