Review of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) by Talhalafci — 17 Dec 2013
I think some people were too busy criticizing and comparing the film so they forgot to enjoy it!
The Desolation of Smaug is way way better than the first one, you don't feel like it's too long like An Unexpected Journey, watching the film in HFR 3D is better because you feel like you're in the Middle Earth and it's fantastic with all the sets, visuals, costumes and makeup.Characters are improved, Bilbo and the dwarves are funny but not in a childish way like in the first film.Benedict Cumberbatch gives us a stunning vocal performance with both Smaug (also motion-capture) and The Necromancer (Sauron), Lee Pace's portrait of the cool and cold-blooded elf king Thranduil is marvellous.
Obviously The Hobbit trilogy is not comparable to Lord of The Ring trilogy but as a very big fan of LOTR, I enjoyed the film and i'm waiting for the next one excitedly.
