Review of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) by Daniel V — 26 Aug 2014
SMAUG!!! Movie is balls out action packed, with a little bit of slow moving story, which I love anyway. So it didn't bore me. But trust me, the wait for the Dragon is absolutely worth it. I am also a much bigger Legalos fan now.
The character is so much darker and just as much of a badass as the much older Leggy in The LOTR Trilogy. But there is a edge to him here, a chip on his shoulder that makes him a much more rounded character.
Not to mention the fact that Orlando Bloom is much more polished actor 10 years later. I'd welcome his return to The Pirates series if he can bring some of this intensity to Will Turner. Martin Freeman now owns Bilbo, all due respect to Ian Holm, but Freeman took what Holm did and turned it up to 11.
Ian McKellen is just as wonderful in these last two flicks as he was in the first 3, even if he does disappear for half the movie but hey that's just what Gandalf does. Evangeline Lilly is a welcome addition and I look forward to seeing what her and Legolas growth in the Battle of the Five Armies as well as the love triangle building between them and the dwarf Kili(Aidan Turner).
I so want Luke Evans to become a star and I think he is well on his way. His character Bard is the human representative in this trilogy like Aargon before him. With this and the awesome looking Dracula Untold(Please be good, because it looks sooooooo Good.
) I think he will be a household name by the end of next year. The jewel in the golden crown that is The Hobbit Trilogy, is Benedict Cumberbatch's Smaug. Not only does this dragon look fantastic, but just like James Earl Jones, I could listen to Cumberbatch recite the alphabet over and over again.
