Review of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) by Matt R — 13 Dec 2014
Where the first 'Hobbit' film was a more-or-less well-oiled machine in terms of pacing, Part 2's story is in mud for half of the run time. This is thanks in no small part to the addition of LOTR alum and a pointlesslove triangle to the already stretched-thin narrative.
The over-saturation of CGI in nearly every shot is also a little disappointing. Given these setbacks, the film almost fully redeems itself with the introduction of one of the best-looking dragons put to film.
ALMOST.
