Review of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) by Andrew G — 27 Jun 2016
This version of the movie is closer to the book than the original. It has 24 extra minutes of material that (I think) should've been kept in the original. There is more time with Beorn, more time in Mirkwood , and a few added creepy minutes of walking through Dol Guldur with a deranged Thrain (Although this didn't happen in the book at the time that Peter Jackson had placed it in the movie, it happened right before the journey started).
Overall, I think the extra 24 minutes gave the movie a more-to-the-book kind of feeling, and it added some nice elements to it.
