Review of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) by Mitch S — 11 Sep 2014
An emotionally dead, soulless movie. This movie looked like one big VIDEO GAME. Terrible! All it was was a big CGI orgy, most of which looked like it was outsourced overseas. If all you make is a movie with pretty visuals and golden dragons and pretty actors with lots of makeup, you end up with a dead, soulless boring movie. It looks like a preview for Diabl0 3 of a War of Warcraft movie. If I wanted to watch video game CGI I could have done that on my laptop. Why make a movie if you are just going to make a video game? For this reason I think they ruined Tolkien's work, and hired a bunch of video game computer kids that never read the books.
Next time someone decided to make The Hobbit, they should try and do it with NO COMPUTER GRAPHICS at all, the way movies used to be made, and focus on casting good actors and development of the characters. Because what people remember from Tolkien's books, is not beautiful landscapes and shining swords, but the fate of Bilbo, the ring, and his friends. Everything else is forgettable.
