Review of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) by Beatle N — 12 Nov 2014
Just got the Extended BluRay Collector's Edition of The Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug. I loved the theatrical version, but the EE is even better, with 25 min. of footage added - including more than double the screen time given to Beorn (Michael Persbrandt).
But we also see more of Mirkwood and the Elves (Orlando Bloom, Lee Pace, and Evangeline Lilly), Laketown with Bard (Luke Evans) and the Master (Stephen Frye) and Alfred, and Erebor, with the Dwarfs (led by Thorin - Richard Armitage - et al) and Bilbo (Martin Freeman) and Smaug the Goldren (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch).
Most highly recommended for awesome beauty and grandeur, wry humour, and serious themes of the corrupting power of lust for wealth. Best. Dragon. Ever.
