Review of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) by Rhett W — 06 Apr 2015
I am a Lord of the Rings fanatic and am obsessed with the entire franchise and expanded media. The Hobbit, on the other hand, was a dismal joke at best. What could have been a great series, was turned into a money laundering extravaganza.
The final installment through the viewer into the midst of a battle with Smaug. This not only catches the audience off guard, but eliminates the only antagonist the audience has come to know and love.
Ten minutes into the movie makes the first too movies pointless. The entire time we are expecting a cunning, evil, dark, vile, enjoyable antagonist and the moment we get to see him at his might he is felled by a measly arrow.
Then there is the plot filler. Not only does this movie lack a story, but the little plot that it does have is all filler. And by filler I mean fighting, fighting, and more fighting. It is just one huge orgasmic battle scene except without any climax.
..making it a huge disappointment in the end.
