Review of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) by Alexandru S — 05 Apr 2015
What a beautiful mess. This was structured as if it was written by a hyper-active five year old with a propensity for making up words who was addicted to video games. So many scenes in this film had me saying, "bullshit" under my breath, ESPECIALLY every fight scene involving Legolas.
Tauriel -- a new character entirely for the films -- is entirely superfluous to anything that happens, as is the "comic" relief ex-town councilor Arthur who more annoyed me than anything. Parts of this are beautiful, but other parts want to be artsy but just ended up making me laugh with how over-the-top absurd they were (Galadriel, Thorin casting off his madness).
