This was a fine conclusion to this Hobbit trilogy and redemption from what was an awkward middle film. I thought that the first film in this franchise was the best on so many levels and the second one fell of quite a bit.

This film lies somewhere in the middle of those. The visual spectacle of this film is amazing with very well done and nearly seamless cgi. The acting in this film was also very good from the whole cast.

The conclusion to this film and the transition into Peter Jackson's epic Lord of the Rings trilogy was also very well done. This movie had its problems though. Though the cgi was very good and the action was great sometimes the movie felt overbearing in that department.

This movie is basically one long action sequence and the cgi at times can feel a bit overdone. Also the one glaring thing in this film that did not work at all was this very forced romance between dwarf number 3 and Evangeline Lilly's character Tauriel.

This relationship did not work on any level and never did I buy this very weak plot point. Also Ryan Gage's character Alfrid was another glaring negative in this movie. He was supposed to be comic relief but his character was just annoying and got an absurd amount of screen time for some inexplicable reason.

Despite this movies negatives though I still enjoyed it as the conclusion to this prequel trilogy. 3.5/5.
