Review of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) by Adam R — 24 Jun 2015
After how perfect the Lord of the Rings trilogy was, I knew the Hobbit would have a hard time reaching the same standard. Before the three films came out, pre-production news starting hitting the web and it sounded like it'd have no problem of competing with Jackson's other efforts.
However, the push for 'all-digital' film-making and effects made the Hobbit trilogy (one that didn't need to be three films in the first place) an unfortunate disaster. The love and care put into the original 3 films was present in its own way with all the costume detail and all, but it trumped any sort of care put into the performances and plot details.
The third and final film is a 3 hour long battle sequence, which was ultimately entertaining upon first viewing, but disappointing in the end.
