Review of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) by Logan B — 20 Jul 2015
After the unending, soul-deadening Hobbit 2, yes I'll take just a couple hours of mostly battles. By now, I'm not trying at all to stack these series of films against the Lord of the Rings, and instead draw enjoyment from the simple pleasures of outlandish action sequences: Legolas running up a series of tumbling steps to stab a gigantic orc (through the top of its head); the elf queen turning goth for a magical spell against the something-or-other powers of Sauron; Christopher Lee, in his 90s, suddenly showing up and kicking ass.
Everything moves along with a short story efficiency, and eye-glazing is kept to a relative minimum.
