Review of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) by Alex A — 23 Apr 2016
With the release of The Hobbit the Battle of Five Armies, the timeless saga of Peter Jackson's idealistic interpretation of Middle Earth comes to an end. Indeed there are some that insist that it is timelessly irrelevant, dragging on for what seems like an eternity. The fact is, the book on which the movie is based, JRR Tolkien's, The Hobbit, is but a slender volume in comparison to his larger volume, The Lord of the Rings. But what Jackson managed to achieve was nonetheless breathtaking.
What this movie lacks in comparison to its two predecessors in plot storyline and character development is made up by Jackson's skills as an experienced orchestrator seamlessly weaving threads of visual effects, cinematography, and costume design creating a magnificent canvas and a world of itself. Viewers will find when watching The Battle of Five Armies that they can sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride as they are taken on a journey.
Though the movie may be overly action-packed it plays an essential and well played role of closing the prequels and sealing the gap between the beloved The Lord of the Rings movies. Viewers will have much to enjoy as a spectacular display of events leaves them breathless and happily satisfied. Casual movie goers will enjoy this adventure and fans will be able to add this to their Middle Earth collection of films.
