Review of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) by Ryan H — 22 Jun 2017
This film is something one can never forgive Peter Jackson for screwing up royally.
The theatrical release was an absolute shit show with unfinished, choppy CGI characters and scenes, and nonsensical moments that make more sense when you add the extended scenes.
The deaths (spoilers) are all very cheesy and horribly rushed, and should have been kept to how they were in the book, except for Thorin's which was very well done and emotionally raw, still very sad.
The extended edition rights the wrongs of the first release, but it's still a far cry from the first or second films glory. Peter said multiple times he wrote the script as they filmed and had no idea where things should have gone and ran out of the money due to the over-marketing of Desolation of Smaug.
It shows. It very obviously shows.
I've only seen it three times (the extended edition 2 of those 3), and honestly probably won't see it a fourth.
