First off, I will say that the LOTR films are my favorite films of all time and the first two Hobbit films, while far from perfect, were still very enjoyable and entertaining. However, the final installment in Peter Jackson's 'Hobbit' trilogy left me underwhelmed and disappointed.
It's battle sequences, while thrilling in moments, felt small in scale, and the strong emotional impact that I felt reading Tolkien's novel is no where to be found here. These were not the impressions I wanted to be left with witnessing what is most likely to be the last cinematic journey to Middle-Earth.
