Excellent script, incredible cinematography & editing, well established characters perfectly portrayed, and only a few brief lapses in the pace. Yet I'd only rate this as slightly above average because it is a well known story which strays from being a faithful retelling.
LotR cut out what should have been enough material for a fourth film - this trilogy should have only been a double.
