Review of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) by Randy N — 30 May 2015
It is in this movie that we begin to finally see what happens when a director takes one children's book of moderate length, and stretches it over three movies. The Battle of Five Armies is more or less a 3-hour adaptation of the last 30-or-so pages of the original Hobbit novel.
The battles are very great and the action is awesome, but I feel like if Peter Jackson had taken out all the Simillarion material, the elf romance subplot, and Legolas, he could have easily fit this movie in with the last one.
This could have definitely worked as one movie, two tops. But three? I feel a bit cheated. But then again, when ISN'T Hollywood trying to cheat me for my money?
