Review of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) by Simon T — 24 Feb 2017
The critics were incredibly mean about Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy. Yes, there's rather too much self-regard in a few of the performances, a dearth of humour and a hell of a lot of fighting.
But it's also sweepingly epic and enthralling, and Martin Freeman is a superlative Bilbo - undercutting the pomposity and finding real emotion in several quieter moments. A rousing conclusion to a fine trilogy.
