Review of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) by Joan P R — 14 Jun 2015
It was always a bad idea to extend The Hobbit - a sweet but slight prequel to The Lord of the Rings - to two, er well, actually three films. This inflated ending with extra pointless characters and a very long but very incoherent battle shows why.
A betrayal of Tolkien, and a betrayal of Peter Jackson too. Like the maddened dwarf king, the director saw too much gold, and lost sense of reality.
